I’ve begun a major and probably fatal modification to my second Tiger Moth. The first cut is the deepest.
Prototype rudder. Dollar Tree foamboard, sans paper, with iron-on covering and paint. It was heavier than I’d hoped – 2 grams of paperless foam, and 2 grams of covering and paint – but still lighter than the original foam.
Lightweight rudder (right). Weight: 4.0 grams, vs 5.8 grams for the original (left), a savings of 30%.
